Exercises in Architectural Design E Assignment_5

“Super Universal Kitchen” (Work in pairs)

A Design for handicapped people called “Barrier free Design“ is recently　replaced for wider concept, called “Universal Design”. If we think that handicapped people is not unusual and that everyone has own personality, his or her favorite and ability is different from others, it is natural that space and product design used by various people has been changing. In this assignment, please find a case that is just the opposite or unconcerned example of “Universal Design” in real space. (Submission 1)

Then please make in pairs with other student and find a trouble in daily life that could be nothing for one person but it causes difficulties to another person. Please consider thoroughly a lot with your partner and design “Super Universal Kitchen” with can be used by both people and make their communication more active through using it together. (Submission 2)

"Kitchen with a puddle"

Mantoku: We have two kitchens in three households, a kitchen for children and adults, we propose some puddles between the two who live together but want a sense of distance.

Kuryu: Why did you break up here?

Mantoku: It is a three-family house, and it is assumed that the situation of people using it is different.

Where this is divided, I am considering a mesh. Water is shared.

Koshima: It is designed to understand where water came from.

However, in the activities carried out in the kitchen, the idea beyond sharing water is not satisfactory.

Furuya: Reusing water is an interesting proposal. Water that just wash with water, spaghett 's water. It is interesting to point out that all water goes to a single drain.

We focused on two social problem elders living alone who cannot cook by themselves and the children who are waiting for entering the nursery school called ‘Taikijido’.

Parents with ’children in the waiting list’ can have their children taken care of in this kitchen. By having elderlies who are living alone come to this kitchen, children learn about food and cooking can teach them about social behaviors.

The kitchen has a grid-framed structure with long drawers inserted into them. Children can climb on top of the drawers to adjust the height difference between adults.

Also by inserting the semi-public kitchen into a vacant house, this place becomes a place where neighbors.

Furuya: This idea has universal design from small to tall people. This design based on grid but it has much flexibility/ adjustability.I think the kitchen is enough. This roof and wall is too much.

Koshima: Why those receipe put on the facade of the house?

Akashi: I think the compiled receipe can be a part of facade of the building.

The handedness is here, but the refrigerator is installed. So, if you can not see your eyes, you will be touched by the Kannon, and you can have it by yourself.counterIt seems to be the case for dining, and in particular by taking communication, you can get deeper into it.

We made a kitchen for a potter and a supermodel.

They have a extreme life style and cannot use the systematic kitchen.

Stove can use for both cooking and baking. Share kitchen can be a gallery.

People who can pass the road can easily access this kitchen.

Kashima : I cannot understand the points of your concept. Could you explain more in detailed?

Kawano:She wants her original kitchen not radical but cultural kitchen for her.

So we think how the kitchen can become the cultural one.

Takese: I think nowadays manual work is not evaluated in the society. I think it is very important to open the work place to the public in order to make the works involved in the manufacturing recover its importance in the society.

Kuryu: Your project looks the gallery for the pottery but what is for the supermodel?

Kawano: I think it is the place for transmitting her lifestyle. Supermodel becomes popular not only because of what she looks but also her character and life style( included what she eats) via development of the SNS.

Furuya:　Why made this form? Peanut table.

Kawano:We don’t want to make typical kitchen and ordinal one. For example, gas cooker is just gas cooker but chimney can be use as both of cooking oven and heater. Sink is just sink but if it has a long and vertical shape, it can be use not only for washing vegetables but washing foot. A place for sitting can be used as shelf.

Furuya: You can say that the work table, oven and water tank in the atelier of the potter become the kitchen. Your project have a potential of the choice of the person compared with the other groups. It is better if you can develop your idea clearer.
